It took a fair amount of work on Matt's part, but he was able to arrange for him, his parents, his sister and Brooke and me to get tickets for Hamilton on my birthday. It's a really long story, but Brooke has been borderline obsessed with the musical and history of Hamilton for the past 8 months or so, so we'd planned to take her and Jamie with the tickets that he'd gotten in October. In the meantime, we realized that we happen to know someone who's dating the lead actress in the musical and could get us better tickets, sooner, so we jumped on the opportunity.
We told Brooke that she was going to come to a special birthday dinner for me in the city. She actually initially didn't want to go because her favorite babysitter was watching the other kids that night. One of the selling points to her coming was that she could order a drink "without a lid." Once we got to dinner, we showed her a video that Ari Afsar, the lead actress, had so generously made and sent to Brooke, inviting her to see Hamilton, even though she wasn't 11 (that was the age we'd arbitrarily decided she needed to be to see it). Brooke was obviously thrilled and I think we were all emotional seeing her reaction to the invitation and realization that she was going.
I never thought I'd say this, but these two have a special bond over musical theater.

So exciting! We had to tell her to not sing along a few times.
We had amazing seats and after the show got to come on the stage and say hi to Ari, as well as the men who played Aaron Burr and George Washington.
We kept trying to reiterate to her what a special experience this was.
It was a really magical night and we were so happy to get to surprise her with it.
