Spring break this year happened to fall the same week as Easter and Miles' birthday, but we still wanted to get away, so we went back down to Florida (thanks so much again to Matt's parents for letting us use their condo!). I was excited about our early afternoon flight...until it was delayed by a couple hours.
We still managed to have fun. A delay en route is so much better than a delay on the way home.
The kids got their first Shamrock shakes.
Our first morning there was Easter and the Easter bunny and Grammie Deb remembered to leave some goodies for the kids.
We got right to the beach first thing that morning.
Brooke learned to body surf.
Paige got knocked over by a wave early on, so she and Miles were both a little wary of the water.
After the beach and showers, we headed out to the pier. Paige was not happy about the two couples on the pier with us, hence her expression. We had dinner that night at AZN, an Asian-fusion restaurant. Because nothing says "Easter" like sushi and fried rice.
The next day, we met up with two other families from our cul-de-sac who were also in Naples. We rented a boat (no pictures of that, unfortunately) and then spent the afternoon on our friends' parents' beach. It was a great day. As Matt said, "It's great to have neighbors who are friends."
Tuesday was a pool day. Paige would not be still at the pool. She's a little kamikazee.
Brooke and Miles played a lot of Marco Polo.
Tuesday night, our friends, the Bordners arrived. The next morning was Miles' birthday.
Brooke reading the card she made for him. We had donuts for breakfast and headed to mini-golf at the birthday boy's request.
We managed to squeeze all nine of us into a Ford Expedition.
It was a little warm for mini-golf, but the kids were troopers.
The parents took it a little more seriously than the kids. For the record, the Bordners tied a few strokes ahead of Matt, who was one stroke ahead of me. Not his best showing.
This was at the end. They were hot, tired and hungry.
We tried to feed the little alligators that they have in a pen there, but they were literally not biting.
While the dads golfed, the moms and kids headed to the pool that afternoon. Paige didn't last long, but the big kids had fun.
Brooke "relaxing."
We went out to dinner that night. In hindsight, not the best choice as everyone was a little tired.
Another beach day on Thursday.
We ran this poor little girl ragged.
We made the obligatory stop at Royal Scoop on our way back from the beach.
Tennis on Friday morning at Brooke and Zach's request.
A little pool time after.
These two really are best buddies.
We spent at afternoon at a spring training game. It was a pretty hot day so I'm not sure it did much to foster the kids' love of baseball.
One morning, the dads golfed again and we took the kids to Starbucks and a playground - just like Wheaton, right?
We went on an "adventure walk" that turned out to be more of an adventure than we'd expected when Brooke and Katie saw a snake.
Lizard hunting. Matt told Zach he'd give him $5 if he caught a lizard and it was his life's goal the rest of the trip. Sadly, he was unsuccessful.
We spent late afternoon, dinner and the sunset at the beach one evening. It was great!
The whole crew.
"If Brooke and Miles are wearing goggles, I'M wearing goggles!"
These two got along quite well, also. There were times that Zach needed his space, but overall I think they had a lot of fun together.
Goofballs.
One morning, Paige and I hung back while everyone else did an airboat tour. Good thing she likes to help clean.
Then we went on an "adventure walk" of our own.
Speedy Johnson's!
We got dressed up and went out to dinner again on our last night there. We tried to get in some good photo ops.
Annnd they're done.
We left on Tuesday morning and got a limo to the airport as a little bonus ending to the trip.
It was a great time - as usual! See you later, Florida!
